Klang: In response to a report on a pond contamination at Ambang Botanic 1, the situation was immediately rectified by the management of Bandar Botanic and pond condition was restored to its original condition by the following day, 22 February 2017.
In the morning of 21 February 2017, the township management at Bandar Botanic received an official report from one of our patrolling officers regarding a pond contamination at Ambang Botanic 1. This is the first time such situation has occurred.
The management’s top priority is to relieve residents’ discomfort. Immediate actions were taken on the same day to reinstate the original form of the pond. Firstly, the floating residues and discharge were removed. Simultaneously, the fountain operating frequencies was increased and the storm management water pumps were activated to dispel the smell and discharge the pond water out. The condition of the pond was restored to its original beautiful state by the next day.
Investigations are on-going to get to the root of the problems as well as to identify long-term solutions. Initial investigation by IWK has reported that the sewage pipes were intact and all the manholes around the pond are functioning well. Results of the investigation are due to be released in one (1) week.
Precautionary measures will be put in place to avoid similar occurrences in the future at Ambang Botanic 1 as well as all water bodies in the developments within Bandar Botanic. While waiting for the results to be released, we are currently inspecting houses that are under renovation at Ambang Botanic 1 and elsewhere within Bandar Botanic to ensure that there is no disturbance to the sewerage system. We have also increased the fountain operating frequencies to move the water within the ponds. Alternative measures such as usage of paddle wheel and hydrogen peroxide are in place should the need arise. At the same time, we are closely monitoring all the culvert inlet and be on the lookout for any unusual activities in the area such as water trucks or tankers which may dump waste material nearby the pond.
These measures will be fine-tuned upon receipt of the lab report and where required, more preventive measures will be implemented to minimise such occurrence at Bandar Botanic in the future.
