Gamuda Land’s SplashMania in Gamuda Cove is set to welcome guests in January next year. A sneak preview event of the waterpark was held on Wednesday (Nov 30) at Quayside Mall.
In his opening speech, Gamuda Land chief operating officer Chu Wai Lune said: “The addition of the SplashMania waterpark will not only benefit residents from Gamuda Cove but also its surrounding communities and Malaysia at large, with a projected annual visitorship of 800,000. The waterpark will allow us to reach out to an untapped ecotourism opportunity in the Southern Klang Valley region in line with Tourism Selangor’s plan.”
The 18-acre (7.28-hectare) waterpark comprises 24 water slides and 15 theme park-concept attractions designed by Polin Waterparks and ProSlide Technology, which are known for their technology and safety records.
Gamuda Land general manager (leisure and hospitality) Sanjay Nadarajah said the tagline of “Where Nature Meets Fun” forms the essence of the waterpark. “Taking into consideration the natural setting of the waterpark and the surrounding wetlands, we ensured that we dedicate 70% of the waterpark to green spaces. The waterpark is currently 95% completed, and when we open, our target audience would be families, tourists, students, travel groups as well as event and corporate team-building organisers.”
Among the types of waterslides and rides at the SplashMania waterpark is the Shaka Waka, a 78-metre-long multimedia and audio waterslide fitted with various LED light effects that can be customised by each individual rider prior to entering the attraction.
Other than that, the Wild Rush waterslide is a mix of back-to-back curves, drops and vortex loops that will end at a 3.35-metre-deep pool. Another slide dubbed the Atlantis VR will allow guests to use virtual reality headgears as they begin their 250-metre virtual journey through the Lost City of Atlantis.
Sanjay added that the waterpark adheres to the safety standards of the Malaysian Department of Occupational Safety and Health, the American Society for Testing and Materials, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, and the TUV Nord standards.
Gamuda Land will introduce its GL Play mobile application as part of the park’s digitalisation efforts to offer convenience to its guests. Through the application, guests would be able to purchase their tickets ahead of time via the booking option. It will also allow them to navigate the waterpark using the park map feature and pre-order their food and beverages (F&B).
Gamuda Land executive director of commercial real estate Larissa Chan said the waterpark has incorporated some green initiatives in line with the Gamuda Green Plan. “We have invested in solar equipments, planted about 1,500 trees, and our F&B vendors will be using 100% recyclable materials.”
Meanwhile, Chu said there will be commercial developments neighbouring the waterpark. “One of the commercial development is called Townsquare consisting of 100 units of retail lots and, at this point in time, it has reached 80% take-up. We also have another upcoming commercial development, ArcHIVE, which will be more focused on F&B.”
Chu added that the development has trams that connect visitors to different parts of the township. Guests who visit SplashMania can opt to park their vehicles at the designated parking spot and ride trams to reach their destinations.
Gamuda Cove is a 1,530-acre township located between the Paya Indah Discovery Wetlands and the Kuala Langat Forest Reserve. The township comprises residential and commercial developments as well as a centre for recreational and leisure activities.
